Arts Academy
As part of a grant the Wilson County Civic League obtained in August of 2005, the Arts Academy became a reality. The Wilson County Civic League has always found ways to educate Lebanon's youth who are enrolled in our various programs.
The Wilson County Civic League realizes that the arts education is very important and have the power to change the lives of our young people, forever. We believe the Arts provide learning opportunities, foster creativity, keep students focused and connect students to themselves and each other. Because of these beliefs, the WCCL continues to offer a comprehensive; two-week summer Arts Academy for local inner- city students ages eight to fourteen. WCCL works diligently to find qualified teachers achieve our goals.
The program is geared toward reaching the inner-city students of the Lebanon community who are in grades 3-8. There are four discipline class curriculum that we offer for the summer, which include graphic art, drama, music, and dance. An aptitude for a particular area is not required to take the classes here at the center. We only ask that students have good attendance, work hard, and have good behavior. This program has been a wonderful experience for both the students and staff.
At the end of the duration of the Arts Academy there is a field trip to either a museum, gallery, or music venue that further enriches the students’ exposure to a broader world.
There is a recital as a finale where the students perform. Parents, family, and WCCL are invited to attend.
